Case Study
Zone 22 Blast Room Installation for New Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Line — Loughborough, Leicestershire
Challenge:
A pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Loughborough required a full electrical installation to support a new production line within a classified explosion-risk blast room environment.
The area was designated Zone 22 (dust) under hazardous area classification drawings, meaning all containment, cabling, and electrical equipment had to comply with strict ATEX and DSEAR regulations. Maintaining explosion protection integrity at every cable entry point was critical to ensure safe operation of the manufacturing line.
Solution:
ElectroGlow delivered a fully compliant hazardous-area electrical installation designed specifically for a Zone 22 environment.
The scope of works included:
In-wall conduit containment systems for protected and concealed cable routing
Stainless steel faceplates installed at all hazardous area entry points
Stainless steel Ex-rated glands used for all cable terminations entering the classified blast room
Installation of ATEX-rated lighting suitable for Zone 22 conditions
Hazardous-area compliant socket outlets to support manufacturing equipment
Temperature sensors installed within the classified zone to monitor production processes
All works were completed strictly in accordance with the provided hazardous area drawings and segregation requirements, ensuring full compliance with ATEX and DSEAR standards.
Results achieved:
Fully compliant electrical installation within a Zone 22 (dust) classified blast room
Safe infrastructure supporting a new pharmaceutical manufacturing line
Explosion-protected cable entry systems using stainless steel Ex-rated glands
Concealed in-wall containment providing a clean, compliant finish
Installation inspected, tested, and verified by CompEx-certified engineers

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our solar and EV solutions.
Do you provide hazardous area classification (HAC) or zoning design?
No. Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) must be carried out by a suitably qualified specialist in accordance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) and the ATEX 99/92/EC Directive. We recommend engaging a competent professional to produce the required classification drawings. Electroglow installs strictly in accordance with approved hazardous area documentation and specifications.
Are your engineers CompEx certified?
Yes — all hazardous-area works are carried out by current CompEx-certified electricians, ensuring installation and inspection meet ATEX and DSEAR requirements.
What documentation will I receive?
You will receive full inspection and test reports, electrical installation certificates, and traceable documentation for all hazardous-area equipment and terminations.
Can you work alongside our H&S or process teams?
Absolutely. We coordinate directly with site safety, engineering, and process teams to ensure safe delivery within controlled and classified environments.
